Big congratulations to all the swimmers yesterday.  Glad no one got eaten..


We still haven’t had any response for ride leaders.  So please remember good ride etiquette.  It is not about going as fast as you can and leave everyone behind.  You need to be mindful of all riders and abilities and have regroup points and safe riding habits. You are sharing the road with other cyclists and motorists and we all need to keep safe.


MONDAY 26th February

SWIMMING: JUNIORS SWIM SQUAD

Venue: Meet at Celebrations Whitfords
Time: 5:45am – 7:00am
Details: This is the popular Tuesday morning “intervals” ride session. This is a high-intensity training session with a mix of fast, flat sections plus 3-7 hills and dedicated recovery points. Group 1 uses active recovery (constant rolling) at regrouping points and Groups 2 & 3 have passive recovery stops. The ride is suitable for all levels, see WEBSITE for more information.

Venue: Flinders Reserve, Broadbeach Boulevard, Hillarys.
Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Details: Indoor squad in 25m pool and outdoor squad in 50m pool.  The indoor squad is for adults and juniors (12+) who need swim fitness, stroke correction and technique development.  The outdoor session is based on building pace awareness and speed. Refer Website for more information.


THURSDAY 1st March

RIDE: HILLARYS & SACRED HEART

Venue: Meet at Celebrations Whitfords
Time: 5:45am– 7:00am
Details: This ride is short hills training session on local roads. The route offers some flexibility on distance and pace depending on how you feel on the day as the hill repeat area is a 2 km loop with either 3, 2 or 1 times

Venue: Flinders Reserve, Broadbeach Boulevard, Hillarys.

A group is heading out from Guildford Train Station at 6am for some lovely hill training.  The distance will be about 75kms and all abilities catered for.

We are looking for ride leaders for our regular Saturday rides.  If interested please let me know by emailing secretary@northcoasttriclub.org.au or via our Facebook page.  We provide ride leader training for free.

Time: 6:30am – 8:30am
Details:  This ride is a semi-coached social ride for adults and older juniors just starting up in cycling or returning to cycling after a lay-off. Distance covered will usually be around 30km with average speeds around 25km/hr. Coaching on cycling technique and copious amounts of encouragement will be provided during this ride.  No one gets left behind!!

RIDE: INTERMEDIATE GROUP AKA CHOCOLATIERS

Venue: Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 6:00am
Details: The Chocolatiers are an intermediate riding group. it is ideal as a training or social ride for all age groups and all levels of cycling ability.  Moya is not available to lead the ride this week.


SUNDAY 4th March

Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 8:00am
Details:  This is a casual and non-coached swim.  Meet at the top of the stairs.  Look for the guys and gals in the wetsuits.  Open to all members.

Weekly Update

We have had some great ideas for revamping the Saturday rides, unfortunately no one has put their hand up to be ride leaders.  Without ride leaders we cannot implement any changes.  This applies for our Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday regular rides.   If you are a regular rider on any of these days, please consider being a ride leader.

Having said that, for the next 4 weeks there will be a group ride leaving from Guildford Train Station at 6am.  See Below for details.

The Rottnest Channel swim is on this weekend and there is a group heading down to Cottesloe to witness the spectacular start of this iconic event. The group will be leaving from Scarborough to Cottesloe and returning to Scarborough via Rebold .  More details will be posted on our Facebook page.


The kids Tryathlon is on this Sunday.  It is not too late to register.  It is in the indoor pool at Craigie Leisure Centre and on closed roads so you children can try a triathlon in a really safe and fun environment.  You can sign up HERE.

Details: The Hepburn Loops ride is based on laps around a 10km circuit in Hillarys.  Ideally, the first loop is done at any easy pace and then we build the pace for each lap – the aim is to keep the pace consistent throughout the whole lap – no surging, no sprint efforts. The final lap is your fastest effort but steady the whole way. Great training for everyone.  See WEBSITE for more information.

There are a couple of options this week.  A group is heading out from Guildford Train Station at 6am for some lovely hill training.  The distance will be about 75kms and all abilities catered for.

Another group will be heading from Scarborough, heading down the coast to watch the start of the Rottnest Channel swim.  You could also start a bit earlier from Sorrento.  Keep an eye on the Facebook page for more information.

Kids Triathlon 25th February Information

The NORTH COAST TRI CLUB Sunsmart Junior Tryathlon is taking place this Sunday 25th February at Craigie Leisure centre with registration commencing at 7am.
 
The event is held in the pool and the closed service roads behind the centre. 
 
The event will be fun and informal, and is a great warm up for the later Tadpoles and Weetbix Triathlons over the next couple of months. The minimum age of participation is 6 so if you know anyone with younger siblings who would like to give it a try encourage them to sign up!
We are also calling for volunteers to help with helmet checks, registration and marshalling so if you can help on the day let Nic (our juniors manager) know via email, juniors@northcoasttriclub.org.au  

Individual Event

There are different distances for each age group and they are as follows:
6-9 years. 50m swim. 3km cycle. 500m run
10-11 years. 100m swim. 3km cycle. 1km run
12-15 years. 200m swim. 6km cycle. 2km run

Team Event

Get your mates, brothers or sisters together for a Fun Team Event. It can be two or three people of any age between 7-15, all girls, all boys or mixed. You can do both the individual, and then join in the teams event. Please make sure that you are capable of doing the distance in the leg you chose.

It is a set distance of: 100m Swim 4km Cycle 1km Run

On The Day

You will need to apply sunscreen before you start and make sure you have a bottle with cold water. For the swim you will need bathers, swim cap, goggles, and towel for drying off. For the bike you will need your bike, a helmet, running shoes / socks and a t-shirt or singlet. For the run a hat / cap. The event will run as follows:

Individuals

7:00 – 7:30am Registration
Bring your bike and gear to the blue SunSmart sun shelter and get your race number and cap. You will be directed where to place you bike and all your equipment. If you are doing an individual and team race, you can register for both at the one time.
7:45am Briefing
A quick briefing on the course and a quick bike ride and run to orientate yourself if this is your first time.
8:00am Lining up on the Pool Deck and the First Wave Starts with 6 year olds.
9:00 approx Completion and spot prizes

Teams

8:30 – 9:00am Registration
Bring your bike and gear to the blue SunSmart sun shelter and get your race number and cap. You will be directed where to place you bike and all your equipment. If you are doing an individual and team race, you can register for both at the one time.

Kids Triathlon Sunday, 25th February – Registration Information

The SunSmart Kids Triathlon North Coast is just a few weeks away, so time to gets the kids signed up.

This great event is at Craigie Leisure Centre on Sunday, 25 February. It’s a pool swim followed by ride and run on roads with full road closures. 


Aimed at kids 7-12 years of age, every participant receives a medal, swim cap and race belt.  For members there is a small TA fee and only $20 for non members.

SWIMMING: SQUADS AT CRAIGIE 2 SESSIONS

Venue: Craigie Leisure Centre
Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm  & 7:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost: $10 or less with a Training Card purchased through Register Now or Direct Deposit.  See below for details.
Details: Indoor squad in 25m pool and outdoor squad in 50m pool.  The indoor squad is for adults and juniors (12+) who need swim fitness, stroke correction and technique development.  The outdoor session is based on building pace awareness and speed. Refer Website for more information.


THURSDAY 8th February

RIDE: HEPBURN LOOPS

Venue: Meet at Celebrations Whitfords
Time: 5:45am– 7:00am
Details: The Hepburn Loops ride is based on laps around a 10km circuit in Hillarys.  See WEBSITE for more information.

RUN: INTERVAL TRAINING

Venue: Flinders Reserve, Broadbeach Boulevard, Hillarys.
Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Cost: $5 or less with a Training Card purchased through Register Now or Direct Deposit.  See below for details.

FRIDAY 9th February

Time: 10:30am – 11:30am

Details: Take your pick: – short set up to 2.2km; longer set 2.7-3km. Pacing as per program with drills to develop technique.

Due to Pool renovations, there will not be swimming on the 2nd and 9th of March (and the 2nd of February-woops)


SATURDAY 10th February

RIDE: CLUB RIDE

Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 6:00am –
Details:  Meet at Sorrento Surf Club before 6am for ride briefing.  We are looking for ride leaders for our regular Saturday rides.  If interested please let me know by emailing secretary@northcoasttriclub.org.au or via our Facebook page.  We provide ride leader training for free.

RIDE: NOVICE/JUNIORS RIDE

Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club (Northside)
Time: 6:30am – 8:30am
Details:  This ride is a semi-coached social ride for adults and older juniors just starting up in cycling or returning to cycling after a lay-off. Distance covered will usually be around 30km with average speeds around 25km/hr. Coaching on cycling technique and copious amounts of encouragement will be provided during this ride.  No one gets left behind!!

RIDE: INTERMEDIATE GROUP AKA CHOCOLATIERS

Venue: Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 6:00am
Details: The Chocolatiers are an intermediate riding group. it is ideal as a training or social ride for all age groups and all levels of cycling ability.  Moya is not available to lead this ride this week.


SUNDAY 11th February

Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 8:00am
Details:  This is a casual and non-coached swim.  Meet at the top of the stairs.  Look for the guys and gals in the wetsuits.  Open to all members.
