The Club Aquathlon Series is a 12 race program between October and April. Races consist of a Swim (400m to 600m) and a run from (3200m to 3400m) plus transition from beach to grass area. The dates of each event are listed each season in the club events calendar but these generally occur every second Friday at the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club with a few exceptions due to Sorrento Surf Club activities.
We very much encourage new members to come along, introduce yourself and get involved. The club prides itself on running the most competitive Aquathlon series in the state, at the lowest possible cost to members.
Aquathlons provide a regular event for club members to get together and compete in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. It also allows non-participating members the opportunity to cheer and support fellow club members who are competing. Club members of all ages and abilities participate and it is an excellent way for newer members to get themselves introduced to other club members. We have participants from 13 years and above take part. Results are based on a handicap system with prizes awarded at the end of year presentation dinner.
We use the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club courtyard area for pre-race registrations, post race announcements and presentations. Generally the Junior parents provide a BBQ for competitors and spectators. Families are very welcome as we encourage all members to participate young and old, male and female.
Registration generally takes place from 5.45pm. Race briefings commence at 6.05pm and racing starts at 6.15pm.

The Max Greive Memorial 10km Run
2017 Race Date: Nov 10
Max Greive was a founding member and a driving force in setting up the Club in the early 90s. He was a great character and a tough competitor – a legend in triathlon circles. Max tragically died of cancer at the age of 55 and we remember him through this memorial run.
The annual NCTC Max Greive Memorial Run has become a popular fixture on the club calendar with participation in the 10km event being one of the qualifying criteria for the CTOY Award (Club Triathlete of the Year).
Entry is by means of as many gold coins as you wish to give for both runners and walkers, with all proceeds donated to the Cancer Council of Australia. True to Max’s own competitive spirit a fierce competition usually develops for the winner’s trophy– the “BIG CHAIN RING”, for both men and women. A 5km version of the event caters for social entrants. The event is usually held in November, with the start and finish at the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club.
2016 Race Results
The Club organises four duathlons between July and September, on Saturday mornings from the Sorrento Surf Club. These events usually replace the usual Saturday rides on those days. The event commences at 7am and runs for approx 1hr 30min (depending on your fitness). These are not conducted as a formal race but are conducted with a fun competitive spirit and volunteers are needed to help mind the bikes. A short or long distance option is offered for each ride & run segment and you can mix it up as you feel on the day. Details and dates are listed in the club Calendar.
Tour de Lancelin
This annual ride is usually held in September or October. Between 40 and 50 riders take to the road early on a Saturday morning to ride part or all of the 130 km from Ocean Reef to Lancelin. Willow Brook is halfway point stop where we stop for refreshments and devour the most awesome scones and then some riders load their bikes on support vehicles and drive the rest of the way, some head back home if time is limited, and others start at Willow Brook and cycle to Lancelin, but the majority cycle the whole way.
2017 date: SATURDAY 23th SEPTEMBER.
Women in Triathlon (WIT) training course
This 8 week course encompasses three sessions a week of skills and fitness training in all three disciplines of triathlon. The culmination of the course includes competing (for those who would like to) in an official Association short-course triathlon. The course entry fee includes membership to the West Australian Triathlon Association, membership to North Coast Tri Club and free entry to five club races. The club endeavours to hold one of these courses each season. More information can be found here.
The Presentation Dinner
All event winners and place getters of our activities over the year are recognised at this club dinner in June/July every year. Supporters and contributors to the running of our club are also recognised at this season wind-up night. We also take particular pleasure in announcing our Club Triathlete of the Year and Club Person of the Year at this function.
