The NCTC take the honours at the inaugural Surf V Turf
A record field of North Coasters took on the Surf Club who was well represented in the first Surf v Turf for the battle of the beach. The event was the conceived by Dave Norton and the concept was floated to his counterpart at the SSLSC Graham Nash last year, and the concept grew from there, resulting in a total of 90 participants in the Aquathlon. (NCTC 65, SSLCS 25) North Coast is very fortunate to have the likes of Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club as a strong supporter of our ideals and aspirations, and this event was a way to further strengthen the relationship.
Rob has been a member for the club since 1999. During that time he has been treasurer for 4 years and President for 2 years. He has also race directed the State Aquathlon Championships on behalf of the club for 5 years.
Added to this he has continued to compete in all level of races from the Max Grieve Classic, Club Aquathlons and Duathlons to TWA Series races and onto 6 Busselton HIMs and 1 Busselton IM. He has competed most years in the Interclub Champs at Mandurah. Rob is a tireless worker for the club and its members, often attending meetings not only within the club but outside the club to represent the members.
Mark has been a member of North Coast since at least 1996 and I suspect a couple of years at least before this. He left us to go to Southern Cross for 4 years and then joined the club again in 2006. His early time with the club he was Treasurer for one season in 96/97 and Secretary for one season in 1997/98. On rejoining the club he joined the committee again first as a General member for at least one year, 2007/8 and maybe two (Can’t find the year book for 2006/7) He then stepped up and took the role of Vice President for the last 2 years.
Loretta’s original involvement with the club was when she lived in Kingsley. For the majority of Loretta’s membership years she has lived in Bull Creek which has limited her ability to have an intimate regular contact with the club. However Loretta and her family have remained active club members with their two older children doing TRYstars and Kurt also about to commence his second season with the clubs junior Cyclo Sportif teams. In addition to Loretta’s contribution to the club and her sporting achievements, this shows a very high level of commitment to the club over a long period of time.
