Whitfords Hockey Club, 86 Lloyd Dr, Warwick.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The first drink is on the house!!!

The AGM is fast approaching and there are a number of people curious as to what the Board does and the positions available and what to expect at the first meeting.

The Board is elected at the AGM and “portfolios” are assigned at the first meeting of the Board.  We have prepared a general example of the portfolios which are very similar to how the Board has been organised this year.  It is a general guide and can be modified to suit the 2018/2019 Board.

If you are interested in joining the Board, nominations forms can be found HERE.  Nominations can be accepted on the day too.  If you are thinking about joining the Board, you can have a chat to the current members and find out all about it.

Board Nominations

Written by Moya Jones on . Posted in News

As per the constitution some of the Board positions become vacant at the AGM, which is generally held in August. Generally a number of people will continue on and nominate themselves again back to the roles they had or maybe a different role. Of course there will also be a number of members leaving the Board.

As a fully self-funded, not for profit organisation the club must rely on Members giving up their time to ensure the smooth running of our very active training schedule, admin, and decision making.

At each AGM the Chair will be calling for people to join the Board. This should be a group of passionate members that will share a range of tasks – just being an active contributor to the flow of ongoing discussion that occurs via email or discussion in between meetings is a huge help but we also require people to take responsibility within the Executive group and general members to undertake roles such as Coach Liaison, Programs Coordinator, Social Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Merchandise Coordinator, & Communications Coordinator. If you wish to be a part of the decisions that are made, then be a part of the Board.

Your club needs your energy and enthusiasm and many hands make light work!

World Championships: A Silver Lining From Dead Last For Rahul

Written by Moya Jones on . Posted in News, Race report

The elite mens race on the 12th of July 2018 at the International Triathlon Union World Aquathlon Championships on the island of Fyn in Denmark was the hardest Aquathlon race 16 year old Rahul Jegatheva, of North Coast Triathlon Club has ever competed in as he fought his way to a silver medal for Australia from dead last in the Elite Junior category due to a 15 second time penalty for a registration mishap the day before the race.

Was devastating on the 11th of July to learn that he would have to start 15 seconds after the entire elite field, and we decided to keep the news under wraps, as it would have been especially difficult to take for his mom anxiously waiting in Perth. A call was made to her as soon as the race began to let her know so she was the first to learn of the penalty.

It was very hard for Rahul to see the field take off ahead of him and losing the ability to draft and swim in the pack with the lead swimmers, as he would have been among the top 3 swimmers in the entire field irrespective of age. Once he started he described a feeling of desperation that he would never be able to bridge the gap and pushed himself beyond what he should have to reduce the deficit.

Pushing his way through the larger bodies of the elite athletes, he hauled himself from last to 6th among the elite juniors by the end of the swim. The swim had always been his strongest weapon, never having been headed by anyone in his age group in his life in the swim leg of the aquathlon, but now he had to depend on the 5km run to haul himself into the medals having over exerted in the swim.

Heading out of transition was a steep incline, and he felt his legs start to cramp after kicking too hard in the swim. He had to run right on the edge of cramp unable to push as strongly as we normally would, while trying to catch the athletes from Denmark, the USA, the Czech Republic and the Ukraine ahead of him.

Turning on what afterburners he could afford, Rahul moved into the bronze medal position at the 2.5km mark of the run with Simon Koblizek of the Czech Republic and Valdemar Solok of Denmark ahead of him.

In a grandstand finish Rahul outran Koblizek to grab the silver medal by 4 seconds, but that penalty was too much for him to overhaul the Danish champion.

“I am very happy to have represented Australia, winning the silver medal. Was a great atmosphere and a wonderful experience racing these elite athletes. I am truly grateful to my coaches Grant Landers of UWA Triathlon Club and Eoin Carroll of the Perth City Swim Club, and of course the North Coast Tri Club where I have had to run handicap races before, never thinking that it would be something I would have to repeat at a world event. I do want to give thanks to the City of Stirling for assistance with local travel and Clive Palmer for his assistance with flight costs to Denmark”

Club Kit – Shop closes 25th July

Written by Moya Jones on . Posted in News

GET YOUR ORDERS IN BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE 25th JULY

The new club shop is now open stocking a much wider range of items than were previously available. Please have a look and place your orders online. Any questions please feel free to contact James Knipe via our FACEBOOK page and he will try and respond as quickly as he can.north-coast-tri-club18-trisuit-SB-LB6-1

You can ship to yourself for a small fee, or have them delivered to James for free and they will be distributed once received. Orders are due to be shipped mid-September to be received before the start of the season in October.  SHOP CLOSES 25th  JULY.

The club will buy some additional stock so there may be some limited scope for changing items to a different size, but only IF WE HAVE THAT ITEM IN STOCK. We hope to have a sizing kit available soon, and sizing guidelines are available on the website.

When buying items, there is usually the possibility of customisation, e.g. longer or shorter body / arm / leg length etc. One of the optimisation options is the chamois in tri-suits and cycling shorts…be sure to choose the option which is best for you. For tri suits, the standard chamois is good for sprint / OD events, and there is an option for their advanced tri pad (small additional cost) which is better for longer events, e.g. 70.3 and IM.NCTC Tshirt

nctc gloves

We’ve also got some great casual items (polo shirts and t-shirts) and running singlets available, and a heap of cycling accessories (caps, arm warmers, winter jerseys, gloves and vests).
We’ve worked hard to bring a wider range and reduced cost for our members, and hope to see you take advantage of this and wear your club colours with pride!

EDIT ON WOMENS BIB SHORTS – The text description for the bib shorts says they are for men. They are actually unisex and there is an option to select either a male or female chamois. Tineli will update the text early next week.

To view more of the kit and to make a purchase, follow the LINK.
