What’s On Guide

October sees the season kick-off which no doubt we’ve all been looking forward to.  Time to dust-off the tri-suit and put on your club colours for the season ahead.  In this newsletter we’ll be giving a quick summary of upcoming TWA sanctioned events local to WA, and as the season progresses we’ll give a brief recap on some of the local races from the previous month where NCTC has been represented.

City of Armadale Duathlon – Champion Lakes – 08/10/2017 – We start with a bang and straight in to the first State Championship race of the year which just so happens to be the Australian Championship also.  We can all agree it’s best to wait for the WA heat to arrive before getting our feet wet, so starting with a duathlon is a perfect way to start the season.  Held at Champion Lakes in Armadale, this race is also race 1 of the Junior Triathlete of the Year Series.  Given that it is a State Championship it also counts as race 1 of the Triathlete of the Year series.  Consisting of a run / bike / run format, a range of distances are available to test us; Tadpoles (7-11 years) have 500 m / 2 km / 250 m to negotiate, and for the seniors there is the short course (2.5 km / 8 km / 1.5 km) and long course (5 km / 20 km / 2.5 km).

Phoenix Aquathlon – Guildford – 08/10/2017 – If you really feel like you simply must get wet, and the (reducing) chance of rain at Champion Lakes isn’t enough, then get across to Guildford for the pool-based Phoenix Aquathlon.  Again, a range of distances are available from Tri-stars (7-11) with a 100 m swim and 750 m run, Junior (12-15) with a 250 m swim and 1.7 km run, and Senior (over 15) with a 400 m swim and 3 km run.  There is also a relay option for teams of four, with each team member completing their swim-run before handing over to the next.

Kalgoorlie Womens Triathlon – Kalgoorlie – 15/10/2017 – If you prefer to spend more time driving than racing, and are of course female, then head East until you find Kalgoorlie.  200 m swim, 9 km bike and 2 km run for those that venture out, although attendance at a seminar on 2nd September was compulsory, so probably more suitable for the Kalgoorlie locals!

TWA Development Program Draft Legal Race 1 – Champion Lakes – 28/10/2017 – Back to Champion Lakes for the Juniors for race 2 of the Junior Triathlete of the Year Series.  A draft legal event for ages 12 to 23, featuring a fun enduro format whereby there are two races of 250 m swim / 8km bike / 2 km run, with a short break in between.  The first across the line of the second race picks up the win.  Note that as it is draft legal, to compete in this race you will need an ITU bike endorsement.

Good luck to all competitors.  Remember to wear your NCTC gear to ensure you pick up the biggest cheers and the free speed boost that comes with it!
