Weekly Update

Back to full training this week.. now to swim/bike/run off those extra Christmas and New Year calories, well, for me at least!!!

From this Thursday 12th January, there will be 2 coached interval training groups to choose from at Flinders Reserve.  The 1st will be a junior and beginner/technique group run by Janine Kaye and the 2nd an advanced/performance group, run by Mike Bosch.   No matter where you are in your triathlon training there is a group for you.  You are welcome at either group.

A little bit about Mike Bosch –   Mike comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge.  He was a former middle distance South African champion and was middle distance track and road running coach at the University of Port Elizabeth, coaching numerous South African Gold Medalists.  The highlight of his coaching career was coaching an athlete to win the all African championships and later that year to run in the semi-final of the 3000m steeplechase at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.  Great credentials and we are excited to have him as part of our coaching team.

Don’t forget the State Aquathlon NCTC will be hosting on 3 February 2017.  Race or better yet, be a volunteer and receive full race points.  See Coming Soon section for more details.

Brad Hoskings will be holding an information evening outlining the 70.3 Ironman program in readiness for Busselton in May 2017.  The information night will be held on 24th January at the Sorrento Surf Club.  Please keep an eye out for the special newsletter later in the week.

Time: 6:15pm – 7:15pm
Cost: $5.  Please purchase training card to minimise cash handling.
Details:  Tempo run session with Mike Bosch.

WEDNESDAY 11th January


Venue: Craigie Leisure Centre
Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Cost: $10 or less with a training card
Details: Indoor squad in 25m pool, outdoor squad in 50m pool.  The indoor squad is for adults and juniors (12+) who need swim fitness, stroke correction and technique development.  The outdoor session is based on building pace awareness and speed. Refer website for more information.

THURSDAY 12th January

FRIDAY 13th January


Venue: Craigie Leisure Centre – 50m outdoor pool
Time: 10:30am – 11:30am  (2 lanes)
Cost: $10 or less with a training card.
Details: Take your pick: – short set up to 2.2km; longer set 2.7-3km. Pacing as per program with drills to develop technique.


Venue: Sorrento Beach
Registration: 5:45pm
Briefing: 6:05pm
Start: 6:15pm
Cost: $10 Cash or training card for single race entry.
Notes: All Members are encouraged to attend. Come to check it, come to get wet, or just come to cheer then stay for presentations and spot prizes.  See Website.
This event series is sponsored by BikeForce Joondalup (BFJ). We are very thankful for their help as they have provided vouchers as spot prizes and will be providing the major prize. To be in the draw to win the major prize you must finish at least 6 of the 12 races in the series. The winner will be by random draw from valid entrants to be drawn at the club’s annual presentation night. The club also recognises performance in this event with both an Adult and a Junior point score awards.

SATURDAY 14th January

Time: 6:00am –  9.30am

Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club (north side of the club)
Time: 6:30am – 8:00am
Details: Kevin is your ride leader and is there for the older juniors and novice adults. Distance travelled is usually about 30kms.  See website for more details.


Venue: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club
Time: 6:00am
Details: The Chocolatiers are an intermediate group ride. The ride is ideal as a training or social ride for all age groups and all levels of cycling ability. Distances travelled usually between 45km to 60km with an average speed less than 26km/hour.  See Website.  Moya is unable to lead the group this week.  Please feel free to join Kevin’s group (6.30am), the main group heading up the coast or organise your own.

SUNDAY 15th January


Venue: Sorrento Beach
Time: 8am
Details: This is a non-coached open water swim for anyone interested to swim as a mob from the beach. Distances depend on the day and what people feel like doing. Meet at the top of the steps at the wall above the beach.


CLUB AQUATHLON SERIES #8  TWA State Series Race #2

Date: Friday 3 February 2017
Time: 5:45pm
Venue: Sorrento Beach

Details: This event is part of the State Series and all clubs across WA have been invitedIf you want to race you will need to register before 29th January 2017, 11.59pmSee our Website for information. The cost is $25 for adult and $20 for juniors.  There will be separate men and women wave starts.

We will need lots of volunteers, and as an incentive to volunteer rather than race, the club is offering full Aquathlon points and will be included as part of the 6th race to qualify for the end of series Bikeforce Joondalup major prize.

When I see lovers’ names carved in a tree, I don’t think it’s sweet. I just think it’s surprising how many people bring a knife on a date.
