Lancelin Ride 2016

It’s almost time for the annual Tour de Lancelin – Saturday 24 September 2016

All club members are welcome to join this ride and support crew/vehicles are encouraged. The full ride distance is 130k (one way), but if that distance seems daunting, grab a team mate or two and just ride a section. Of course, you don’t even have to ride – come up and stay for a pub lunch and enjoy the stories of the adventure the riders had! You can bring the family for a fun day out too.

As many of you know, each year there is a nominated charity for the Lancelin ride and we ask for a donation large or small, whatever you are willing to give.  On this year’s ride we will be riding to raise much needed funds for the Cure for MND Foundation.  The patron of which is the well known Neale Daniher, who too has been diagnosed with the disease.  As triathletes you may be familiar with ‘Jon Blazeman Blais’ and his inspiring ironman story (if you don’t it’s well worth looking it up) and the ‘Blazeman’s roll’ that Chrissie Wellington does over the line at every Ironman race she competes in to raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).  For those of you who have not heard of MND it is terminal and there is no cure or even a way of slowing its progression.  The average life expectancy from diagnoses is only twenty-seven months and it eats away at you slowly from the inside. This charity was nominated by Emma Conway who said, “This is close to my heart as my friend’s husband was diagnosed earlier this year, only in his mid-thirties with a beautiful active young family.  They have shown such courage, positivity and have such a zest for life it is beyond inspiring.  It makes me feel grateful everyday that we are able to do what we do. So please come along on this fun social ride and hopefully the money we raise can help make a difference in the search for a cure.” If you can’t ride but would like to donate, please let me (Kelli) know.

Wheels rolling at 6am from McDonalds Currambine, cnr of Delamere Ave & Marmion Ave Currambine. This is an ideal start point as the McDonalds is open 24 hours, there’s ample parking, toilets for that last nervous visit and pre-ride coffee. Aim to arrive for 5.45am. David Martin will be the ride leader for this event.

There will be at least one car following riders so if needed you will be able to pull out at any time. We will also have water, juice and lollies in the car that we can hand out along the way. Please remember to pack spare tubes etc and ensure you have lights on your bike.  At the halfway point (about – 60 km), we will be guests of Bill & Lill at the Willowbrook Farm Caravan Park (1679 Gingin Brook Road, Neergabby  WA  6503), who will be providing everyone with coffee, tea and the most delicious scones and jam you have ever tasted! If you are planning on driving up and meeting us at Willowbrook, riders will probably be there by about 8.30am-9:00am or so.

I have a couple of spots left on the trailer if you want your bike brought back (you will need to organsie a lift for your body though).  Check the Facebook event page as some people have kindly offered to bring some bikes and/or people back.

If you intend in coming, please respond to the event I have put on Facebook or let me know on the contact details below (I need to know approx. numbers for the scones!)
