Well what a turnout! Over 100 Northcoasters and Families gathered together for our season opener last Sunday. It was wonderful to see a great mix of new and existing members of all ages gather together for a couple of drinks and a chinwag. David Martin gave a brief overview of what’s happening with the club this 2015 – 2016 season. Many thanks to Geoff Todd for his entertaining account of his journey of doing the Kona Ironman, oh and a special mention that Geoff must have the best looking calves in the club! After a couple of games it was prize time with the following members winning prizes Matt Bott, Tammy Lines son, Spiros Constantaras, Wilna Kemp and Lucy Kaye. Many thanks to Sarah Black and Kelli O’Neil for the yummy nibbles. The afternoon ended on a high with plans for training and winning the Mandurah Interclub Trophy – which of course goes straight to David Martin’s training room! Welcome to the NCTC Season Launch

I am David Martin the Club President and on behalf of the committee I would like to welcome you all the LIFEMEMBERS NEW, WIT, EXISTING, JUNIORS the PARENT, FAMILIES and FRIENDS.

Special thanks to Damien & Davey Real Estate for the great looking trailers parked outside and for the on-going logistical support of the club.

Today we have a special guest speaker Geoff Todd bringing us stories from Kona.

Fun & Engaging mix of training and social activities. We now have a lot on and there is not a single day that goes by without at least one club based activity and a number of other member arranged activities.

We have a great range of club kit and we hope you will purchase this and wear it with pride during your training and racing events. The kit shop is open periodically throughout the year and it is expected to be opened again in the next few weeks. We have some pieces available for you to see today and you can also see the shirts the committee are wearing. Also available today are the free bumper stickers and for sale the trucker caps $10 and keyrings $5.


Today we are releasing a new TRAINING CARD. Following on from the success of the SWIM CARD and to further remove the accounting and cash carrying requirement on our coaches this new card can be used at all our training activities (swimming, running and spin) where a cost is involved. The card contains 20 entries and each entry is worth $5 (so $100 in total) this card costs $90. You can get one today with cash or direct deposit and will be available online via Register Now & Direct Deposit (these details will be published in the weekly update)

Held in two 5 week blocks for this season held on Fridays afternoons with the first block starting this coming Friday 30th.


Professional coaching within the club is provided by Bill Whalley and Brad Hosking who run training squads and sessions aimed at HIM and IM races.

Club Half IM Program. We again thank Barry Silverlock for putting on his 3 session program that will bring a new dimension to not only the novice but seasoned athletes will gain valuable information from these sessions. If you are doing the HIM in Busso this year ensure you speak to Barry today (he has his PC and can show you the course outline) and look out for these sessions – the first one is Sunday Nov 22nd 3-5PM at the Sorrento Community Hall.

Season Launch welcome this is it, our way of bringing the membership together with the committee and coaches. Get to know you.

Aquathlon in summer, 12 races on Friday evenings at SSLSC. Race #2 was last Friday and #3 on 6th Nov. Great social food & drinks etc. It is also my great pleasure to announce Bikeforce Joondalup as a new naming rights sponsor for the Aquathlon Series.

Max Greive Memorial Classic 5 & 10km

Max was a founding member of NCTC and driving force in establishing the club. Event on Friday 13th Nov approx. 6PM entry via gold coin, for this year’s retro kit race. Bring your oldest kit most spectacular NCTC design.

Duathlon in winter approx. 6 races held on the first Saturday of the month.

Tour de Lancelin Charity ride held a few weeks ago approx. 30 riders attended and we raised over $400 for Lymphoma Australia. Great day out

Death Valley Charity ride as yet unscheduled 140km ride from SSLSC.

WIT 8 week course for ladies new to the sport, builds Skills & Fitness working to Sprint race at Mandurah Interclub

SSLSC Watermans to the Wall, 2.7km swim April 24th 2016. Is being geared almost totally to the Tri Clubs as a warm up to Busso. Wet suits will be worn and major prize will be closest to estimated time. (hopefully $1000.00).

End of Season Dinner is our presentation and awards night dinner held at the conclusion of the season in June/July.

Mandurah Interclub 29th Nov

NCTC hold the Rob Prichard Trophy for champion clclub having won this for the last few years. We need you to attend and race for your club. Sprint distance. Points per participant. BBQ put on great morning out.

It gives me great pleasure to advise the creation of a new state based clubs races series. This series is designed to bring the focus of our events back to the clubs and provide a much more relaxed, less intimidating race experience.

Weekly Update – Our most important news broadcast is our weekly update (Thanks Michelle Martin) sent on Monday morning each week. It contains the weeks training and social activities.

Website/Blogs/News – important upcoming club events, news and updates as needed. Member profiles, news and stories.

To ensure you get the clubs communications make sure you are subscribed to the club website. On any page of the site enter your email address into the field and subscribe.

Facebook Community – Very active open for all members to talk, ask questions, post photos and interact with the membership.



The club is built and runs around our members participation to volunteer.

When the call goes out please do your best to make yourself available without it the club will not operate

Our next event requiring some volunteers is the Max Greive – we need aid station and run turn around people. If you can do it please do?

Partners of members this is a great way to get involved and support your partners and the club.


All volunteers all work very very hard to support the members and activities.  Meet second Monday of every month.

President – David Martin, oversees everything, delegates as much as possible is also one of the swim coaches, cycling coach and ride coordinator. Very involved with the club at the association level.

VP – Mark Hoffmann, Keeps me in line and is my main back up. Partner and Sponsor coordinator. Provides great long term club insights and information to the team.

Treasurer – Tom Gilbert, counts the beans, writes cheques and balances the books, actively involved in club cycling.

Secretary – Moya Jones, internal administrator and manages the paperwork, minutes of meetings and associated barrage of documentation.

Club Captain – Mike Bosch, is coach liaison, coordinates and promotes participation in events and keeps members aware of goings-on in the club


Emma Bott – is our WIT coordinator and recently titled social coordinator

Stuart King – Ride coordinator

Kelli O’Neill – Tour de Lancelin coordinator, EOS coordinator

Sarah Black – Events and Venues coordinator including function catering (like today)

Alan Hartley – Aquathlon coordinator

Kate Griffiths – General committee, no real task yet but she will get some

Tammy Lines – New member liaison, carries the club phone and main email contacts. Just starting to look after club kit/scody liaison.

Martin Flaig – Website coordinator.

A very hard working team and these job roles are only a small part of what really goes on. We would not have a club without the involvement and dedication of these members.

Sorry if I missed others, there are a number of other roles and functions that keep the club moving.

Most of our committee & coaches are here and wanting to talk to you all. So if you have questions on any aspect of the club committee or training please speak to all these people.

Now to ensure you speak to everyone we have another competition. When you arrived – form. Get as many names as you can on the form minimum entry 7 committee & 4 coach/coordinators – put the form in the barrel to win one of two $90 Training Cards.

There are a few names and roles not on the form and you get extra points if you put in more roles and names, WIT, juniors and other coordinators.

Draw Who Who 4:30PM so hang around have a drink and nibbles, have a chat, make new friends and complete the Who’s Who.
