We had a fabulous night at the End of Season Dinner. It was so wonderful to see lots of familiar faces and meet some new ones! It was great seeing everyone out of lycra for a change too! 🙂 The new venue was spectacular. Hopefully everyone in attendance had as much fun as we did!
As usual, here’s a summary of the NCTC training sessions for the week. Please refer to the calendar on the club website for more details or follow the links below.
MONDAY 29th JUNE
* TRYSTARS SWIMMING: 6-7PM, Arena Joondalup
Inside, 25m pool. Coach Janine Kaye. This is our last session for the term. We will break for the school holidays and return on Monday 27th July for 9 weeks in term 3.
TUESDAY 30th JUNE
* CLUB RIDE: 6-7.20am, Iluka Loop
Weather forecast looks fine so keep up your winter fitness by joining us at 5:55am at Celebrations drive-thru at Whitfords Shopping Centre ready for 6am ride start. We are still getting good numbers some come along and slot into the group with plenty of people at all levels of ability. More info and links to maps can be found here.
Group Ride Leader Note: Next week and the one after (7th and 14th July) will be without Michelle as she is going away. Could one of the regulars please step-up and do a ride briefing and ensure that all riders know the route and regroup protocols. Michelle will be back for the ride on 21st July.
* ARENA SWIMMING, 7pm
50m with Janine Kaye. This session is aimed at working on your swim efficiency, pacing and fitness over the winter months. Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). We are in the indoor heated pool but you’ll need to rug up for the walk back to the car! We will be doing a little CSS test for those who need it. Nothing horrible or scary.. just the data I need to ensure I program the beepers so you can get the best out of the session for YOU!
WEDNESDAY 1st JULY
* CRAIGIE SWIMMING, 6.30pm
Indoor pool with Pippa – This session is technique based and perfect for CT’s and those of us looking to develop confidence and stroke. Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available).
Outdoor pool with Janine – This session is aimed at working on your swim efficiency, pacing and fitness over the winter months! Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). It is getting chilly outside so you are welcome to wear your wetsuit for this session (you will need to rinse it out thoroughly to avoid chlorine damage) or remember to bring lots of layers rug up for the walk back to the car! We will be doing a little CSS test for those who need it. Nothing horrible or scary.. just the data I need to ensure I program the beepers so you can get the best out of the session for YOU!
THURSDAY 2nd JULY
* SPIN SESSION WITH DAVID: Westfield Whitfords 6am
It’s spin session week so come with your wind trainer to Car Park 9 (gated) at Whitfords . Enter from roundabout off Banks Ave near library and follow around towards Post Office. Full details with a map to gain access are available on the Calendar Event page.
David will open the gate and activate lights at 5:45am. Please come with plenty of time to setup your gear and start your warmup for session start at 6am sharp. Cost $5.
Sessions runs for about 1 hr and bikes and cars are secured in locked carpark so we can leave our gear and walk through the centre to have breakfast/coffee at Orion Café (located on the other side of Whitfords near the NAB bank). They offer an unbeatable $10 breakfast special – coffee plus choice of either bacon & egg on toast, or mini egg benedict.
Note: Although David is also going away over school holidays, the next session on the 14th will be covered by an alternative coach so this session continues fortnightly over the winter season.
* RUN: INTERVAL TRAINING: Moolanda Park, 6-7pm
Winter run sessions are at Moolanda Park, Moolanda Boulevard, Kingsley. Rob Lees will be coaching the session. With lots of running events over the winter, now is a great time to work on your running. These fun interval sessions are suitable for all levels and running experience. All welcome to come along and give it a go!
FRIDAY 3rd JULY
* CRAIGIE SWIMMING- 10.30am
Outdoor pool with Janine – this session will be a mix of drills and some endurance work. Suitable for all levels. Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available).
SATURDAY 4th JULY
* WINTER DUATHLON 2, SSLSC 7am
The Club duathlons mark the start of winter training with dates set for the first Saturday from June-September. The Duathlons are considered training, not a race. More info can be found here . If someone is free to watch the bikes while people are running, your help and support would be greatly appreciated.
* CT RIDE WITH KEVIN – SSLSC 7am
This week the Juniors will join in with the club duathlon.
* CLUB RIDE – FREO & RIVER – SSLSC 7am
Ride leader Tom Gilbert. For those not doing the Duathlon and looking for a decent big but flat ride, this is the one for you. This is a taper ride for Tom, who is off to conquer hills in France with a group of North Coasters next week, so pace will not be too hard or furious at the front end. Full ride distance 84km (54k if you turn back at the Left Bank in Freo). More details can be found here

With school holidays and the France cycling tour in July, our regular ride leaders are unavailable on the 2 dates listed to take the club ride. – Mudd Rush- 16th AUGUST, 2015
Volunteers are still being sought to help with the Mudd Rush at Rego, Bag security, course marshals, aid stations, the finish line and recovery. The club will receive a donation for your time.
– RACE AROUND ROTTNEST- 17th October, 2015
Volunteers required for race pack collection, race marshals, aid stations and finish line assistance. Volunteers will be provided with return trip to Rottnest as well as meals. The club will also receive a donation for your time.
