WEEKLY UPDATE

Check the calendar for the weekly training sessions available but the highlights of the weeks activities include:

TRYSTARS:

* TRYSTARS RUN & CYCLE TRAINING- Friday Feb 20th, 4.30pm

This week we will be at Sorrento Surf Club for both Trystars and CT’s. CT’s will cycle with Kevin and the Trystars will  be doing an ocean play and running session. Please bring your swimmers, towel, goggles if required, running shoes and water… and some warm clothes for afterwards. Parent help is encouraged and please try to arrive a few minutes early so we can register and be ready to go.  Registration is open at 4.20pm.

There is a club aquathlon on afterwards so we encourage you to stay around and watch, enjoy a BBQ sausage or hamburger…and maybe encourage your parents to have a go!

* SATURDAY MORNING CT RIDE WITH KEVIN – NOT ON THIS WEEK

There will be no CT cycling on sat 21st Feb as Kevin is coaching a cycle course.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:

SWIM:

* ARENA SWIMMING, Tuesday 17th Feb, 7pm

This session is based on a mix of technique and threshold work! Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). Swim caps are also encouraged so we can make use of the Tempo trainers! 

* CRAIGIE SWIMMING, Wednesday 18th Feb, 6.30pm

Indoor pool with Kristy –  Bra This session is technique based and perfect for CT’s and those of us looking to develop their confidence and stroke.  Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). 

Outdoor pool with Janine— This session is based on a mix of technique and threshold work! Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). Swim caps are also encouraged so we can make use of the Tempo trainers! 

* CRAIGIE SWIMMING, Friday 20th Feb, 10.30am

Outdoor pool with Kristy – This sessions is an endurance session with some limited stroke correction.  Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). 

**SWIM CARDS** will be on hand at all sessions. The cards are $90 for 10 sessions (a saving of $10). Show the coach your payment receipt  (paper or digital copy)  and they can authorise your card! Payment is required either by direct deposit or register now to avoid too much cash handling on pool deck

BIKE:

Cyclists please note that it is getting darker now for our early morning starts so it is time to get out the bike lights, charge or change the batteries and mount them both front and rear. Don’t forget to wear your ID bands too.

* TUESDAY RIDE: 17th Feb, 6-7.20am, Iluka Loop

This is the regular Tuesday morning club ride departing 6AM Celebrations Bottle-shop at Whitfords Shopping Centre. There are three ride plans catering for all speeds of riders: Group 1 – plus 32km/hr, Group 2 – plus 30km/hr, Group 3 less 30km/hr. Distance: 40km, 38km & 32km. Please self-seed yourself into the correct group for your ability so that all 3 groups meet up at the regroup points at approximately the same time. This allows us to ride off from each regroup point together – we do not have ride leaders for each speed group so we are still one group. More info and links to maps can be found here

* THURSDAY RIDE: 19th Feb, 6am, Hillarys and Sacred Heart

Departing 6AM Celebrations Bottle-shop at Whitfords Shopping Centre. This ride can suit any ability as it incorporates repeats of a 2km loop in the Sorrento area including a short sharp hill on Hocking Parade behind Sacred Heart College where the regroup point is. Depending on how you feel on the day you do 3, 2 or 1 times up the Hocking Pde hill. We regroup at the top of the hill after the 3rd loop and then as a group complete go back to Whitfords and do it all again. Distance: 31km, 27km & 23km. More info and maps, here

* SATURDAY LONG RIDE:  21st Feb, 6am

Swan Valley Circuit – 85km. Rolling at 6am from SSLSC. Ride Leader Michelle.

* SATURDAY SHORTER RIDE:  21st Feb, 6am

Whiteman Park – 54km. Rolling at 6am from SSLSC. This ride will head out with the longer ride group and will return from Whiteman Park.

* SATURDAY ALTERNATE RIDE & RUN: 21st Feb, 6am

It’s Hoffy’s birthday and he’s hosting a Birthday Brick session. If you’d like to join him, meet at Okely Road Car Park at Carine Open Space for 6am departure (anyone wanting a longer ride is welcome to leave earlier). Ride west on Beach road crossing Marmion Ave to West Coast Hwy and turn right, head north along the coast at your own pace along Whitfords ave, Northshore Drive, Oceanside Promenade, Ocean Reef Road, Burns Beach Road and left onto Marmion Ave. Based on your speed and wind direction turn at a suitable time to ride in the reverse direction and be back at the Carine Open Space about 7:45 to put your bike in the car and running shoes on. The Carine Park run is a free 5km timed run at 8:00am. Registration details for those new to Park Runs are in the link below, remember to bring your bar code.

RUN:

* SUMMER INTERVAL TRAINING : Flinders Reserve, Thursday 19th Feb, 6-7pm

These fun  interval sessions are suitable for all levels and running experience. All welcome to come along and give it a go!

AQUATHLON:#10 – 20th Feb, 5.45pm

The next Aquathlon is race 10 on this coming Friday at the Sorrento Surf Life saving club. Registration is at 5.45pm, and race briefing at 6pm. Come along to participate or spectate. Distances are usually a swim of 400m to 600m, and a run from 3.2 to 3.4km. The bar will be open and the club will be selling BBQ hamburgers $5.00 and sausage sizzle $2.50. These are a great social night for everyone to attend!

The amazing Al & Suzie from Als Cycle Surgery have very generously offered to sponsor the Aquathlon series again this year with another sensational bike on offer!  This is the major prize for the Aquathlon series and to qualify,  members must compete in at least 6 of the events over the 12 event series (see dates here)  

We are also very grateful that 3 of our members,  David & Michelle Martin (ExplorOz),  Lisa Vass (Sorrento Sports Massage) and Eve O’Hare (Eve’s PT Plus),  have generously donated  spot prizes at events. We hope to see you there!!

NORTH COAST MEMBER NEWS:

*  BUSSO 70.3 TEAM MEMBERS

We had a great response for our free team entry to compete at the SunSmart Ironman 70.3 Busselton Teams event held on Saturday 2rd  May 2015, which was generously provided by Triathlon WA.  Our successful team members are:

Kelli-O’Neill- swim ;  Denise Ford- cycle ; Emma Bott – run

We wish these 3 lovely ladies all the best in their fundraising efforts, their training and their race! We look forward to supporting you to help raise much needed funds for Muscular Dystrophy WA, and cheering you on in May!

 * ITU NATIONAL JUNIOR SERIES Race 3, Feb 21st-22nd

The following 4 awesome North Coaster juniors are heading to Davenport, Tasmania to compete in this event.

* ROTTNEST CHANNEL SWIM, Saturday 21st Feb

We want to wish all our club mates taking on the solo or teams event the very best for the swim this Saturday. I am doing a team myself, so I am praying for calm waters, still air and warm sunshine. I hope everyone participating has an amazing day and is rewarded for the time and dedication that their training has required. See you at the pub,… sometime late in the day I expect! 🙂

NEWS & OTHER EVENTS

* PARK RUN CARINE GLADES – every Saturday, 8am

Quite a few Northcoasters have been spotted enjoying this free timed 5km (fun) run at Carine Glades at 8am every Saturday. North Coast has now been set up as club option so you can either add it to your current registration or select it when registering for the first time.  Check it out here. Registration and participation is free, all you need is your bar code and to show up. They are always looking for volunteers too if you want to check it out first!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS : 

Volunteers are needed for the Tadpoles event at Challenge Stadium  on the 8th March. Tri-events are looking for 5 for transition, help on registration and Rosa will need help with the BBQ as well.

Volunteers are also needed for the Sunsmart Womens tri on Sunday 15th March. Great opportunity for the men folk to come and cheer us on and help out 🙂

 * TRI CLUBS SWAP MEET – Saturday 21st Feb, 10am-12 noon

Have you got a bunch of tri stuff lying around that you don’t use anymore ? Or do you love a bargain? On Sat 21st Feb,  Exceeed tri club are hosting a tri swap meet at the TWA office carpark! Anyone can buy and sell stuff on the day for free. More info about the day  on the Facebook page: Triclubs of WA Swap Meet

* SPECIALIZED BIKE DEMO- Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March.

Ever wanted to test ride your dream bike? Now you can! Al’s Cycle Surgery with the support of Specialized Australia will be holding a Test The Best Event on the 28th Feb and 1st March in Kalamunda. There will be more S-Works bikes there than you can poke a stick at.
