WEEKLY UPDATE

Lots of North Coasters had a fabulous weekend down in Busso, either swimming, cycling or running.. or a combination of them! Great to see so many happy faces enjoying the events on offer! Another busy week ahead as Trystars cycle and run training re-commences after a holiday break, plus we have a member benefit workshop this coming saturday. As always, check the calendar for the weekly training sessions available but the highlights of the weeks activities include:

TRYSTARS:

* TRYSTARS RUN & CYCLE TRAINING- Friday, Feb 13th,4.30pm

We are back into it after the summer holiday break and our first session of 2015 will be at Sacred Heart for both Trystars and CT’s. CT’s will cycle with Kevin and the Trystars will  be doing a cycling skills and running session. Please bring your bikes, helmets, running shoes and water!

Parent help is encouraged and please try to arrive a few minutes early so we can register and be ready to go.  Registration is open at 4.20pm.

* SATURDAY MORNING CT RIDE WITH KEVIN – 

The junior club ride is departing from SSLSC this Saturday. Please be there at 6.15am for a 6.30am start. Don’t forget to wear your ID wristband.

PLEASE NOTE: there will be no CT cycling on the 21st Feb as Kevin is coaching a cycle course. 

JUNIORS AND SENIORS:

SWIM:

* ARENA SWIMMING, Tuesday 10th Feb, 7pm

it’s Time trial night! Please don’t freak out.. it’s not scary I promise. The idea of this is to get a baseline to work from so we can gauge your own improvements and set times for you to hit during the normal sessions. It’s not a race or competition. It’s about learning to pace and to set some goals and targets for yourself! 

* CRAIGIE SWIMMING, Wednesday 11th Feb, 6.30pm

Indoor pool with Brad –  Brad is filling in, but Kristy has provided the session for him to follow. This session is technique based and perfect for CT’s and those of us looking to develop their confidence and stroke.  Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). 

Outdoor pool with Janine– I’ll be giving the results from the Time Trial. Some technique and some threshold work! Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). 

* CRAIGIE SWIMMING, Friday 13th Feb, 10.30am

Outdoor pool with Janine – This sessions is an endurance session with some limited stroke correction.  Please bring your Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (we have some club PB and Paddles available). 

 

**SWIM CARDS** will be on hand at all sessions. The cards are $90 for 10 sessions (a saving of $10). Show the coach your payment receipt  (paper or digital copy)  and they can authorise your card! Payment is required either by direct deposit or register now to avoid too much cash handling on pool deck

BIKE:

* TUESDAY RIDE: 10th Feb, 6-7.20am, Iluka Loop

This is the regular Tuesday morning club ride departing 6AM Celebrations Bottle-shop at Whitfords Shopping Centre. There are three ride plans catering for all speeds of riders: Group 1 – plus 32km/hr, Group 2 – plus 30km/hr, Group 3 less 30km/hr. Distance: 40km, 38km & 32km. * THURSDAY RIDE: 12th Feb, 6am, Joondalup loop Anticlockwise

This is one of the regular Thursday morning club rides departing 6AM Celebrations Bottle-shop at Whitfords Shopping Centre. This is a scheduled recovery ride and will be conducted at an easy to moderate pace with 5 regroup points. Distance: 26km or 35km. More info and maps, here

* SATURDAY RIDE  Carabooda/Wesco:  14th Feb, 6am

(Valentines Day). Wear Red. Carabooda/Wesco Loop80km yes another new one. The roads are great out there, no traffic, good distance and local. Departs SSLSC as usual, lead by Michelle Martin. See info and maps, here.

* SATURDAY RIDE  See the Giant Girl:  14th Feb, 6am

Another new one yes another! This ride called See the Giant Girl is a trip to the city cone the coast stopping for breakfast in town and then heading over to Langley Park to see the beginning of “The Giants” Girl Waking up. Then back home via the Fwy bike paths. Approx 80kms with many stops for breakfast and Giant. Lead by Mark Hoffmann departs 6am SSLCS all details of route published here.

* SATURDAY SHORTER RIDE Wesco: 14th Feb, 6am

A good complementary ride to the longer ride would be another new ride Wesco taken from Mullaloo Dome is a 50km total distance. Lead by Nick Thomas.

RUN:

* SUMMER INTERVAL TRAINING : Flinders Reserve, Thursday 12th Feb, 6-7pm

These fun  interval sessions are suitable for all levels and running experience. All welcome to come along and give it a go!

AQUATHLON:

* APOLOGY FROM AL

Unfortunately Al wasn’t able to make it to the Aquathlon on Friday night due to work commitments. 20150207_092413

He was extremely disappointed to not be able to be there to show off the major prize. He sent me a picture so I could share it all with you! 

This is the major prize for the Aquathlon series and to qualify,  members must compete in at least 6 of the events over the 12 event series (see dates here). We only have 3 races left in the series, so don’t miss out on your chance to qualify to win this beautiful bike!

NORTH COAST MEMBER EVENTS:

* REMINDER- BUSSO 70.3 TEAM ENTRY

Are you keen to be in a team at Busso 70.3 with your club mates and raise some money for an awesome charity? Triathlon WA are offering us one free team entry compete at the SunSmart Ironman 70.3 Busselton Teams event held on Saturday 2rd  May 2015.  More info can be found here . Please forward your expression of interest to triathlon@northcoasttriclub.org.au by 5pm on Tuesday, 10th Feb, 2015. Please include your name, TriWA membership number and  preferred leg (swim, bike, run).

* PUNTURE REPAIR & BIKE MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP, Saturday 14th Feb at 3pm

So you had a puncture and it took 6 people to fix it. You fear getting a puncture in a race as it take so long to replace. Rob Lees will introduce you to the secrets behind a fast puncture repair for both tube and tubeless tyres and simple bike maintenance that will keep you safe on the road.

Location:7 Baroola Place,  Ocean Reef

What to bring:  Your bike, Tyre levers, Spare tube & Foot pump or gas canister with valve attachment

NEWS & OTHER EVENTS

* PARK RUN CARINE GLADES – every Saturday, 8am

Quite a few Northcoasters have been spotted enjoying this free timed 5km (fun) run at Carine Glades at 8am every Saturday. North Coast has now been set up as club option so you can either add it to your current registration or select it when registering for the first time.  Check it out here. Registration and participation is free, all you need is your bar code and to show up. They are always looking for volunteers too if you want to check it out first!

*TELSTRA TRI SERIES – ROCKINGHAM TRI- 15th Feb, 2015

The fourth race of the Telstra Tri series is on this coming Sunday at Rockingham.  More information on the event and to sign up can be found here.  I am not racing this event, so if someone has room to fit the gazebo (ute or fold down back seats, please let me know. It would be great to have the tent there as a meeting place for members. Please contact me at triathlon@northcoasttriclub.org.au 

 CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS : Tri events has set up a new “First timers tent” initiative and they are looking for around 5 volunteers from each of the invited clubs to assist with the first timers tent. The 5 volunteers will be required from 6am to 7.45am to assist those first timers make their way around the venue and to give them some basic advice about completing their first tri! Upon arrival, head to the orange ‘First Timers Tent’ (that will be labelled at this event). Dave Budge will meet the volunteers there at 6am and give a briefing of the venue and provide hats and follies shirts to wear. If you are volunteering for a second plus time, if you could wear the volunteer shirt provided the last time. They are willing to accept volunteers who are participating in the Sprint Distance Race and will allow them to check bikes in transition early, however would still like them to be available  until 745am. Each club will be given a donation per volunteer they provide for the roles, $25pp for the 2hrs.. If you are keen and available, please contact me ASAP at triathlon@northcoasttriclub.org.au 

 * TRI CLUBS SWAP MEET – Saturday 21st Feb, 10am-12 noon

Have you got a bunch of tri stuff lying around that you don’t use anymore ? Or do you love a bargain? On Sat 21st Feb,  Exceeed tri club are hosting a tri swap meet at the TWA office carpark and we have been invited to attend! Also anyone can buy and sell stuff on the day for free. More info about the day  on the Facebook page: Triclubs of WA Swap Meet

We are looking for volunteers to set up the club tent as well as someone to run the BBQ and sell sausages on the day. Please contact me at triathlon@northcoasttriclub.org.au if you are available.
