State Aqua Champs

Sorrento Beach turned on one of it’s traditional Friday night blows for the running of the 7th State Aquathlon Championships. It made for a very challenging event, so congratulations to all participants that competed. For members of North Coast who didn’t don the goggles – there’s always next year.

The running of the event takes a lot of man/woman power so I would like to acknowledge the North Coasters that put up their hand and assisted with making it all happen. Firstly to Rob Lees who set up the event by organising the sanctioning and permits to run the race, to Eddy Girvan who race directed on the night and to Tom Houston, Jon Houlahan, Mike Blatchford & Ann Blatchford who were a tower of strength in assisting with the setting of the course. To our great band of volunteers that helped at registration (led by Andree Gould), and out on the course (led by Glen Mesch) – you were all awesome and a real credit to your Club.

Thank you very much to our sponsors – Naming sponsor: 32Gi, who also provided all the energy and recovery drinks for the competitors. Thank you also to Honda North for their continued support. The Sorrento Surf Club were as usual great hosts as well as providers of the water safety.

Not to forget the actual event – North Coasters did exceptionally well with many podiums. For all the results go to the results link at: TWA State Aquathlon Champs

Please take a quick look at the random photos taken from Dennis Tan’s FB album – you will get some idea of the atmosphere on the night.
