Do you have any nicknames  we don’t know about?nick thomas
Emm (Kitten) calls me her puppy =)

How long have you been involved in Triathlons and how did you first get introduced/involved into Tri’s?
This will be my fourth season coming up, initially I believe I was exposed to Tri’s when mum went to see my uncle and cousin WAAAAY back in the day (Max Greive and daughter, Min), but I really can’t remember too much about it – I think I was 6 or 7orsomething. Reason I got into tri’s is a long story, but suffice to say I wanted to do something that no-one else in my group of friends had done (jack of all trades syndrome), and aside from that, I was probably the most unfit person. Seeing the look on their faces when they asked “So, what  did ya get up to on the weekend” and I replied with “Oh, I did a triathlon” was priceless =)

Which of the 3 tri disciplines did you do well at before you decided to try tri?
Well the parents forced my brother and I to do swimming from a young age so I was a pretty decent swimmer and from about 2004 I got into cycling a bit, culminating in doing the ’06 Great Bike Ride. I finished in 2:42 or something and thought I was pretty tops! =D (Did it again in 08 and got 1:39). Didn’t get into running though until much more recently, in keeping with the ‘shocking the friends’ theme, I thought I’d give the City to Surf a crack and finished the 12k last year in 71 minutes

Tell us about your first race?
First race was race 1 of the Tri Series 08/09 down at Hillarys, I did the pursuit course (500 / 20 / 5). I was um…. Nervous… to say the least. I remember even though I was a NCTC member, I was wearing a very non-descript Orca trisuit so if I made an ass of myself I wouldn’t be associated with the club =D The water was very cold as I recall and it was only on the way in that I recovered from the shock of it’s, seemingly, icy temperature. The bike leg was fine as that was my strongest suit at the time. Trying to balance, while tired, on jelly like legs and trying to put shoes on was a new experience for me in T2. The run felt like death warmed up (sun had risen by that stage) but I was determined not to stop jogging, even If it was a pathetic saunter. Finished  in a little over 1:30 if memory serves, bloody marvellous ^^

Would you mind telling us what age group you race in?
24-29

Someone you respect highly in triathlons or the club and why?
Everyone in the club coz they get out there and give it a crack, but especially Barry and Al – Though they may be up in the clouds, their feet are firmly on the ground. Always willing to field the simple questions and help out the n00bs =)

What is your pre-race routine or superstitions?
Boozing and karaoke till the wee hours and straight from their to the transition area….

But really….Early night, pasta, water (same as practically everyone else)

What is the funniest or strangest thing that has happened to you during or before a race?
Hmmm ….. Nothing really, I hit a pooch that was strolling across the bike course at Mandurah (luckily it was ok =) )….yeah… pretty tame =(

Who are your training partners?
No-one at the moment, Cheerleading (oh yeah) trains Tuesday, Thursday, Friday nights and Saturday mornings which pretty much kills all the club training =S

Are you married and bringing up a family?
Living with my beautiful partner Emily, we’ve been together since April 16th this year (2012)

What is your trade or profession?
I’ve been working as a freelance computer tech for almost 3 years now and it is my sole source of income. I build and service computers, setup networks etc

What are the specs of your trusty “steed”?
Have an Azzuri Uno (courtesy of Al) running a stock 105 groupset and … o0 *wanders off to the garage* Shimano wheels w/ Safiro Pro tyres (they’re just wheels to me o0)

What are your hobbies/interests outside triathlons?
Once cheerleading has finished destroying my body, I’ll go back to acting maybe, I sing, playing guitar (acoustic and electric), paint miniatures, read and write (though not for a while)

Favourite food when not racing?
Can we say Icky Sticky Licky Pudding? Can we?! Please!!! – Big pasta fan =)

Favourite holiday destination?
Either camping somewhere remote with my guitar and campfire and good company or somewhere where there’s snowboarding =)

Fantasy date?
Kate Beckinsale as Selene from Underworld =P

Who is your greatest sporting hero?
Yeeeeaaaah haven’t really got one, Chrisie Wellington is pretty cool though

Three most inspirational people you would like to invite to dinner? Why?
Dan Abnett – God I love his writing style

Jesus – His ability to turn water into wine would make fine dinning a fairly cheap affair =) (but seriously, he’d be pretty cool)

The Borg Queen – The collective would have to be made up of thousands of inspirational people from hundreds of worlds, she’d be like a wild card =)

What song would you like played at your funeral?
Ashes scattered in space while the Star Wars theme music played *sheepish look*
