Winter Duathlon Series

Dust off those Bikes, Helmets and Running Shoes !!

Trystars LogoWelcome to those who are new to the club, please introduce yourselves to us on Saturday and make sure we know if this is your first event.

Check the brakes on the bikes work properly and wheels are pumped up and spinning freely. The children will be taken around the cycle course before their event to make sure they know where they are going.

Make sure you stay to the end for the presentations so the children do not miss out on the spot prizes and their certificate. Presentations take place as soon as the last child finishes the event. Bikes must stay in transition until all the children have gone out onto their final run.

Parents are expected to stay and assist with marshalling. This is how we keep our TRYstars safe and run these events without them costing a fortune!! Everyone mucks in and helps!!

When: Saturday 8th September and Saturday 22 September 2012
Where: Craigie Leisure Centre, Whitfords Avenue Craigie
Time: Registration: 2:30pm. (this is in the foyer of Craigie Leisure Centre)
Race Briefing: 2.45pm
Start: 3.00pm
Presentations: Approx 4:00pm (when last child finishes event)

Start / Finish and Transition will again be near the skate ramp at the Western end of Craigie, not where it usually is for the triathlons. Registration will be inside as normal.

How It Works

Distances are selected to suit child’s age and ability. For instance: Age 7 – 9 Can do 200m run/ 1km cycle/ 500m run, but if they wish they can do up to 3km cycle – we let the children decide, though we encourage new TRYstars to start at shorter distances and build up to a longer distance at the next event if they thought it was a bit short. 12+ ages can do a maximum of 500m run/6k cycle/2k run if they wish, but can also do the same as the younger ones if they wish. We have maximum distances but not minimum distances for each age. Everyone receives a chocolate medal at the end and a certificate and we do spot prize draws. It is all about getting out there and having a go and above all having fun!!

What To Bring

Put Sunscreen on Before You Start

For the Run Leg: Shoes, Sock (optional), T-shirt, Singlet, Hat / Cap

What To Do

2:30pm

Register inside the Leisure Centre at the desk right in front of you as you walk in the doors.
Take your bike to the Western side of the leisure centre (near the skatepark)
Rack your bike in your correct age group, put down your helmet, next to your bike ready for when you do your transitions. Ask for help if you need.

2:45pm

Listen to Nicole and Karen as they talk you through the course. For new TRYstars, we will take you on a ride through the bike course. Nicole and Karen will walk you through the run course.

We will need about 10 parent helpers / marshals to keep the Trystars safe. Please see Nicole and Karen. We will really appreciate your help on the day

3:00pm

Each age group will start of in waves. With the distances, do what you think you are comfortable with on your first triathlon. Remember it’s about finishing and enjoying the experience

If you have a friend who wishes to try triathlon then they can come down and have a go and just pay $10 if they are not sure if they want to join up. For those who are members this event is free.
